Women In logistics and Transport Middle East was established mainly to create a pool of opportunities for women in the logistics industry. In addition it is a great door open for the women which enables them to get a mentor, network and enhance and retain their professional careers within the industry through various events and workshops conducted specially by this association.
Women in Logistics and Transport Middle East was established in May 2012 and gaining fast momentum, with more than 200 members in the first 5 months ; there are now many members and the number of new members is going up every day. The speed with which the group has grown is quite phenomenal. Quite a few of our members are men who support women working in the industry, and we actively encourage more men to consider joining us as associate memebers. WILME feels men are experts in the field of logistics and shipping and are considered very good role models for our female members to gain in depth knowledge and learn from.
Women in Logistics and Transport Middle East was formed with the aim to help increase the number of women in the sector, improve lives of those women already working in logistics (and therefore retain their talents) and to address the problems facing women in the field in this region since it’s a developing and growing industry. The region which we are in is not as developed as the rest of the world such as Europe and the United States, however we can all contribute to enhancing this sector and making positive changes. We have many members who will testify to our success and will encourage others to join as they have benefited from this association already.
Women in Logistics and Transport in the Middle East held its first face-to-face meeting in May 2012, which was attended by logistics representatives and a steering board was established to successfully move this association forward. Progress since then has been amazing, with some events that will be held in 2012 and the launch of our mentoring scheme will be launched accordingly 2012. Members come from all areas of the professions including road haulage, supply chain and logistics, freight forwarding, consulting, recruitment, IT, HR, retail, manufacturing, third party logistics, executive search, public sector, software, and Logistics Management.
We run the association completely on a volunteer basis and periodically organize events which are usually free to attend. We assure you its great fun and offer valuable networking opportunities for all.
